Mentoring is a Biblical mandate and at HTC Youth we have a mentoring scheme for girls and boys aged between 14 and 18. Jesus himself mentored Peter James and John - he invested time and teaching in each of them, teaching them more about himself so that they might live lives honouring to God.
Each young person is paired with a suitable adult from within our church who will help to nurture their faith. They meet regularly (approximately once a month) to chat, pray and read the Bible together. Although these meetings are confidential, we encourage young people to fully involve their parents in meeting their mentor and getting to know them too.
“Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older they will not leave it."
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV).
We believe that the Bible encourages mentoring relationships; Jesus himself spent lots of time specifically with Peter and John, nurturing and building their faith.
“Being mentored has really helped me understand my faith. It has encouraged me to pray more and also ask others to pray for me. Having a mentor is great because they are someone who is not related to you that you can turn to whenever you need to ask a question or have a problem that you would like advice on.”
