Our Vision

Our vision for children’s work at HTC is for:

  • Children to grow in their faith as Christians – to know Jesus as Lord in their lives, and to put Him first, not just in Sunday groups, but during the whole week.
  • Children to grow in discipleship – so that they know how to live as young Christians through their understanding of the bible and suitable bible based teaching materials that are relevant for children today.
  • Children to grow in leadership – through opportunities to lead within their groups; and as they mature, to help lead younger children’s groups, and in the wider Claygate community.
  • Children to grow in fellowship – with other children who attend the groups, and in building relationships with the children’s leaders: through worship; sharing together; praying for each other, and through social events.

Crèche

A crèche is available in Church House every Sunday during the 10am service and provides a safe and caring environment for babies and children from 0 - 2 years and to welcome their parents who are often new to church.

Children’s Activities

All children aged 3 - 14 come into church for a time of worship starting at 10am then go to their own groups:Children's Group

  • Scramblers aged 3 in Lower Church House
  • Jumpers ages 4 & 5 in the Church Hall
  • Climbers Y1 & Y2 in the Village Hall
  • Explorers Y3 & Y4 in the Village Hall
  • Trekkers Y5 & Y6 in Upper Church House
  • Pathfinders Y7 - Y9 in the Youth Club

except when there is an All Age Service. These services are short (45 minutes) and child friendly. Once a month (to coincide with Holy Communion) Megamix is held in the Church Hall for Jumpers through to Trekkers, while Scramblers meet as usual in Lower Church House.

Trekkers Eternal

On the first Sunday of each month, Eternal takes place in the church hall from 5:30 – 7:00pm.  This is run for Trekkers children (Year 5&6), and includes games (Nintendo Wii; PS2; Karaoke; Pool; Table tennis; etc.) plus drinks, snacks and a lot of fun for everyone.  It’s the perfect opportunity to bring along your friends who don’t normally come to church.

Camps for Sunday School members

Many members of the Sunday School (both children and leaders) take part in CPAS organised camps which take place throughout the summer holidays.

Toddlers’ Praise

Toddlers’ Praise is held alternate Wednesday at 10am in Church House - behind the Church Hall. It is for pre-school children with their parents and carers. After a 40 minute programme of action songs and a story there are biscuits and squash for the children and an opportunity for the adults to chat over a cup of tea.

Jigsaw Pre-School

Our Pre-School Playgroup, Jigsaw, meets in the church hall weekday mornings during term-time aims to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment for 3 - 5 year olds, where all children are equally valued. The learning is through a play-based curriculum which enables children to develop language skills, an early understanding of mathematics, creative skills, and personal and social skills.

There is an outdoor play area which is used daily (weather permitting) and a wide variety of suitable equipment is provided to help develop physical and social skills. The playgroup is registered with Social Services and OFSTED and is a member of the Pre-School learning Alliance.

Children can be registered on the waiting list from the age of 18 months - for further details please contact Jigsaw Pre-School.
