It's Not About You...
Rick Warren opens his book The Purpose Driven Life with the words “its not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness .... you must begin with God. You were borne by his purpose and for his purpose”.
What follows over 40 Chapters, intended to be read as a journey of spiritual discovery and transformation, is crystallised in 40 Days of Purpose.
Using Warren’s book as the central resource, HTC developed home-grown material to complement the text, in the form of new teaching and small group study. HTC members who participated in the programme received a copy of the book, and read a chapter a day for 40 days. In addition, fifteen central sessions will be held in Church, providing a special teaching programme and the opportunity to discuss and pray through the issues raised, with others in small groups. Children and Youth followed their own 40 Days of Purpose programmes too.
Our 40 days began on Sunday 26th October 2008 and concluded on the 4th of December. It was the largest joint study programme ever held at our Church and comprised:
- 40 Days/40 Chapters
- 320 Adult Participants
- 32 Discussion Groups
- 100 Child Participants
- 25 Youth Fellowship participants
- 75 “home studiers”
- 15 central sessions
Its aims were to help us grow as deeper followers of Jesus and to come closer to each other as a Church family.
