Week Commencing 29 June

Claygate Flower Show - please sign up today! The Flower Show (Sat 19 July), just three weeks away, is going to be a great opportunity for us put into practice our vision of more, deeper and closer followers of Jesus.  There will be numerous opportunities for members of HTC to get involved in many different ways in the preparation beforehand and also on the day.  How will you respond to this call?  This year we are doing some of the things that we have done before but also doing some new things:
Handing out environmentally-friendly fabric bags with “The good news is it’s free” printed on the outside, with goodies inside, giving us a great chance to share the good news of Jesus with as many as we can
Promoting the Alpha Course with invitations to a huge Supper here on Thursday 25 September
Sign up TODAY to help with the firm favourites: Cake Stall, Fairtrade Stall and Face Painting plus Messy Church which will all be on offer and we will need lots cakes to sell and lots of help on the day. Meanwhile if you would like to take action and get involved now please contact Ian Vale on 467134 or email ianvale@fsmarketing.uk.com as he would love to tell you more!

HTCs September Questionnaire - an update Almost 350 people have now completed our questionnaire - thank you for the fantastic response - but we still need to fill the following gaps:

  1. car park: 9.30am 1 person;  11.15am  2 people
  2. audio / visual: 11.15am  5 people - on-the-job training given!
  3. tea and coffee: 6.30pm  7 people

Contact Janet in the Church Office to make your offer asap. The Ministry Team are drawing up the teams and rotas will be out at the end of July.

Giving Review Have you returned your Giving Review pledge form yet? If you haven’t, please get it to Gerrit Smit, HTC Pledge and Gift Secretary, as soon as possible.

Child Protection Update Christine Steeds and Katherine Willis are stepping down from their roles as Child Protection Officer and CRB Officer from Monday 30 June and we thank them both for all that they have done on our behalf in this very important area. From Monday Fiona Chapman will be taking over as HTCs Child Protection Officer, and queries about general child protection issues or CRB forms should now be directed to her. Linda Luff is taking over as the Independent Contact Person, and concerns about specific individuals or situations should be directed to her.

Greeting cards for UkraineAs in previous years we are all being asked to write a greeting card or two or three (signed, with or without an address) with a message to give to some of the Christian and non-Christian people that the team will meet in Ukraine  in the summer.  To know that other Christian brothers and sisters are remembering them and praying for them is so appreciated by this remote community. Please bring your cards to the office by 13 July.

Messy Church - 3 July We are looking for someone able to give a demonstration of spinning or carding wool or do you know someone who can? Contact Gill Lowe or Andrew Cowie for details.

Safari Holiday Club HTC will be holding a one day holiday club on Tuesday 29 July for children in school years 1 to 6. Forms are available from the office and should also be returned there. Those who did not make it to the club in February will be given priority booking. As always, the club cannot happen without masses of input from the many talented members of HTC, so please contact Jill Griffiths if you can help.

Previous Week's Items

Volunteers needed for Hungarian Camp If you are aged 16-18, are free from 20 - 26 July and would like to do help at a Children's Language Camp in northern Hungary, please speak to Roger and Jill Marsden on 01372 462090.

AV Desk Additional people are needed to join the 10am audio visual rota - further information from Mike Benns.

Nettle Warrior 2008 This crazy, fun event involves off-road running, scaling obstacles, lots of water and mud and we're hoping to put together a mixed team (age, gender, fitness) who are up for a fun challenge to work together as a Christian group, with God. Contact Paul Dodson on 473859 or see noticeboard in the foyer.

The new Directory! It's finally ready for collection from the foyer! If you spot errors/omissions, complete the form on the Welcome Desk and deliver it to the church office. If you would like an electronic version just email your request to Janet at the address below.

Finance Reports The user-friendly ‘Financial Report to Members' (also available in large print), which has been produced for members of HTC, is available from the foyer. The Statutory Annual Report & Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2007 are also available - please contact the church office if you would like a copy.

Coordinator needed Where possible we like to try and offer a meal or two to those who are laid up at home, recently out of hospital, or who have just had a baby. This often happens informally but occasionally we are aware that people may have slipped through the net. We would therefore like to find someone to act as coordinator for this ministry. You would not be expected to do all the cooking but would make sure that contact is made with those who are willing to provide meals. Speak to Janet in the office to find out more.

Dorcas (handicraft) Group Why not come and join the Dorcas Group every other Tuesday (next meeting 10 June) from 2 - 4pm in the Quiet Room to make clothes, toys and blankets for Ukraine. You don't need to be an expert or have equipment! Call Janet Wheatley on 465353.

Skilled Volunteer Could you help us film and edit some footage for use during 40 Days of Purpose? If so please contact Emma Langford on 020 8224 0864 or 07810 200166.

Wool needed The Dorcas Group would love to use up your spare balls of wool - drop them to the church office!

Stuart Wright leaves HTC

At all the service on Sunday 11 November 2007, Philip Plyming made the following announcement:

“I have some news to announce concerning a member of the ministry team, news that is both sad and also very exciting.  Stuart Wright, the Community Worker here at HTC has been offered and accepted the post of Outreach Curate at St Mark’s Tollington Park in North London, and will therefore be leaving us at the end of January 2008.  At St Mark’s he will be working under Sandy Millar, who many of you will know was until recently vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton, and his post will include outreach into some of the toughest estates in London.  At the same time Stu will be continuing with his ordination training and will be ordained in St Paul’s Cathedral at the end of June next year.

This is a tremendous opportunity that has opened up for Stuart and Susie, and while after eight years we will be very sad to see them go, we recognise the Lord’s hand in opening this door for them.  We assure them today of our love, thanks and prayers for the months to come as they prepare to move.

I have the highest regard for the work that Stu has overseen here in Claygate, and want to see that continue to develop; the work with the youth at the Hub is particularly exciting, and I will be talking to the PCC tomorrow night about the ways we can ensure that further resources are directed to this area in both the short and medium term”.

The quartet of ordinations becomes a quintet!

  • Tom Darwent is being ordained presbyter (priest) on Friday 27 June at 6.30pm at Guildford Cathedral. Additional stewards are needed - ask Janet Watkins for details
  • Stuart Wright is being ordained deacon on Saturday 28 June at 5pm at St Paul’sCathedral - aim to be seated by 4.15pm
  • David Salter (son of Jem & Rosemary and former member of HTCs YF) will be ordained deacon on Sunday 29 June at 10.30am at Christ Church Cathedral Oxford
  • Beverley Hunt (on attachment to HTC earlier this year) and
  • Liz Richardson (former Pastoral Assistant and Prayer Co-ordinator at HTC) will both be ordained deacon on Sunday 29 June at 10.30am at Guildford Cathedral.
