In November 2003 Holy Trinity sponsored a visit to two remote villages in Trans-Carpathia, Ukraine to investigate the practicalities of a summer visit. The aim was very much to work through the churches there and support the remote but solidly Christian communities and demonstrate that there were fellow Christians in the UK who wanted to share faith with them.
With their approval the first summer “Working Holiday” to Akli and Gyula in 2004 involved more than 25 church members in medical, dental, teaching and mission teams (and was also supported by Christian doctors and medical students from Hungary as well translators from a local Ukrainian University). The ages of the group ranged from 8 to 78. This group expanded in 2005 and this year more than 70 people (including 48 from the UK) are seeking to make a long term impact; building on the medical, dental and teaching support that is provided; and (at the request of the ministers there) to augment the programme by running a youth camp to help them bring local youth to Christ.

In addition to our summer trip, our longer term objectives include:
To make ongoing provision for certain medicines which can make a real difference to the villagers; and unobtainable/unaffordable locally.
To provide for the salary of at least one local Christian youth worker to provide ongoing support for the youth in the villages following the youth camp which we plan to run in the summer based on a shortened Alpha course.
To then undertake a longer term building project in conjunction with the local council and church and rebuild a small two-room primary school in Uj Akli where the roof has caved in over the last 12 months, rendering it unusable. We are planning to undertake this project using local labour under the supervision of the same local Christian builder from the town who built the toilets in the Gyula school so successfully last year.
Pray individually and in home groups.
Ask questions about the trip - speak to any member of the team.
Write a greetings card or two for us to take to a family in Ukraine.
