Last day

Very enjoyable day yesterday although we are all quite tired now.

The 10:00am final meeting was very well attended and was a beautiful meeting .  We had a period of open prayer when firstly people could pray for 1 thing to thank Jesus for.  Then 1 thing to request.  Then simply 1 persons name to pray for.

good meal that Ferenc arranged in one of the Budapest suburbs.

Today people have been doing their own things:

  • Zoo
  • Childerns railway
  • Spa
  • Shopping
  • Just sleeping

Now we are on the way to the airport for a 19:20 flight home.

Prayer: that we safely get home on this leg of the journey. That we take home with is the realiance on pray and the theme of Jesus be the centre iin all we our lives back home.

Again thank you for your prayers, it has been wonderful for us to think that you have all been praying directly. I am glad that the technology has generally worked well and this has brought us all much closer together.

God Bless

Culture shock

It is 8:00 am on Monday

We are in the Novotel in Budapest

Most people are asleep after a long but thankfully uneventful journey and a late meal on the outskirts of the city. Andrew arranged a lovely meal for us. The work that he puts in behind the scenes is truly phenomenal. God has given him a special talent for this.

We are now in holiday mode!

The schedule for today is all completely voluntary and mostly about taking the opportunity to see this beautiful place:

10:00 Small meeting to reflect on the trip

10:30 shopping trip walking

Or

10:30 cultural trip walking

13:00 bus trip around Budapest

16:30 those leaving today depart

19:00 meal at traditional Hungarian restaurant

Some will join in with this others will do the same thing

For tomorrow nothing is formally organised but some may do the children's railway or a hot spa. Then people will make there way to the airport around 5.

Prayer: thank God for the bonds of friendships that have been formed this week and the pleasure of this extra time to just be with each other relaxing.

Thanks

Just left Gyula

We have just left Gyula in two buses.  I have decided to avoid completely that word for long distance bus starting with a co!

Next Berehove where the interpreters are at university this should be about 1 hour away.

Beautiful services this morning:

Ann gave her testimony

Stu preached on hearing Jesus calling, that we all need Him whereever we live  and choosing His way and gave people the opportunity to make the prayer of commitement.

Paddy preached on cleaning the vine of changing our behaviour to not just read the bible in our head but accept it into our hearts.

God bless

Last day in Ukraine!

Jo reggelt / good morning,

It is Sunday morning @ 6:30.  Everyone else in the house is asleep, so I will have to tap quietly!

We have had the final day for all the functions. All patients seen,  sports day at school, youth sent off with 'this is not the end but the begining' (thanks Winston).  This is always an emotional day as we have all made good friends. We English get so so much more out of being here than we feel we put in.  God has so blessed us all.  There is a great feeling of unity.  One worldwide church under one wonderful loving saviour.

He is so good.

(I am now sitting outside with the chickens clucking around me)

This morning there will be 3 services Akli 8:30

Uj Akli 10:00

Gyula 11:30

We are 1 hour ahead of England

Most English will attend 2 services Gyula and 1 other. After that we will have lunch in Gyula at peoples houses and then say some tearful goodbyes I am sure. And onto the couch (oops I mean coach!), arriving back in Budapest late tonight.

Prayer: please thank God for the fullness of his blessings that he showers upon us.  Please pray for Stu W and Paddy as they prepare to preach today.  Please pray for those with minor ailments that could make the journey uncomfortable e.g. Those that need to make too frequent visits to the loo.  Please pray for our hosts, thanking God for opening up their homes to us often giving up their beds and sleeping on the coach. Making is feel part of their families.  Please pray for next week for them after we leave.  Life can be hard here and this week us a break for them too.  Please pray for those who may have heard Jesus' message for the first time in a way that has moved their hearts and they have responded by asking Him in.  Praise God for these new brothers and sisters and pray for their protection and they quickly find the support that we all need. Finally please pray for our safe and unhindered journey back to Budapest.

God bless us all and thank you for your prayers and love

Purse returns

When we got back to school this morning the purse had been placed in the WC.  Someone felt the guilt of what they had done and were sorry and wanted to put it right - praise God.

Yesterday the devil attacked but today the devil was made a laughing stock.

I wanted you to know so that you could sing Gods praises over this incident that has brought great encouragement to all of the team

Thursday evening

Good at the school, numbers seem to have stabelised at about 140. Today was based around I am the shepherd e.g. Cotton wool sheep, sheep and shepherd outside games.  Dentists visit at the end of the day fun and informative including Norman the kangeroo! Prayer: for people who are getting tired now.

Dentists and doctors successively moved from Akli to Gyula on Wednesday and had a successful first day in Gyula. Alan had to do a dental procedure that he has not ever performed before in 40 years of dentistry.

Youth camp came to the 3rd of the 4 talk 'the choice' given by Stu W.  He summarised the previous 2 talks then lead the listeners to the choice that needs to be made. At the end of the talk Stu gave people the opportunity to stay behind and be prayed for.  ELEVEN people stayed behind!  Praise God! At the end of the day a sad and bad incident happened - one of our translaters had her purse stolen.  This has never happened before on any of our 3 trips here.  This is not a coincidence that this happens on what otherwise was such a joyous day.  Prayer: for these young new born christains that God protects them from Satan attacks and praise God that their are now more brothers and sisters in our family.  Please prayer for protection, energy and health for the whole team as we approach our concluding talk 'how to make the most of the rest of your life',  please prayer for Julian Coy as he delivers this important supportative talk

Thank you and good night

God bless you all and thank you for your loving emails and prayers

Message from Stuart Wright

Hi everyone back at HTC.

We are half way through the mission here. So here is a half term report.

  1. thanks for all your prayers
  2. God has been looking after us and really using is as a team
  3. Give thanks for:
    • safety
    • strong relationships with hosts and ministers
    • good film nights
    • encouraging number in school
    • encouraging questions at the youth camp
    • medics and dentists seeing as many people seeing many needy patients
    • a packed hair salon

As we go forward the words of 1 Cor 2:1-5 are a guide to us.

"When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power."

We are here to proclaim Jesus Christ, not with superior wisdom or eloquence, not with wise and persuasive words but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power. Prayer: that we will be dependent on the holy spirit to empower and lead us as we combine in our areas of service.

There are too many things to mention

  1. for the children of the school to get to know Jesus
  2. for Bea as she starts as a new youth leader
  3. for Paddy as he starts a consultancy clinic
  4. for all gospel proclamations:
    • home visits
    • relationships
    • socials
    • and church
  5. God's energy to keep going
  6. faith to believe in Gods power in all things

We miss you, we need your prayers, see you soon.

Love in Christ,

The Whole Team

Film nights

Gyula: on Monday showed chariots of fire. Speakers broke down half way through. More rustled up. Not well received too much dialogue and too English.

Uj Akli: Tuesday showed Narnia extremely well attended and received.  I think and pray that this film touched some lives tonight.

Akli: Wednesday - report to follow let's pray that this showing has the same attendence and responds.

Sunday morning

It is a beautiful morning in the Ukraine. Blue skies and not too hot.

Thank you for all your emails of support, encouragement and your prayers.

It is great to hear from you all.

This morning each of us will be with our host families. attending Church with them in our villages.

Prayer: please prayer that the placement of English people to Ukrainian families will really work and all will gel quickly.

These services will be run by the local ministers with Stu Wright saying a few words of thanks and information about what will be happening in the week.

Prayer: please pray for Stu that he will have the energy and clarity of thought and wisdom to get his message over clearly both at the service and at these important first meeting with elders and other villagers.  Please also pray for his back.

After Church we will be going to the annual fair in Gyula (one of the villages).  Here we will get a further opportunity to mix with the villagers, talking about why we are here and also advertising what will be happening in terms of medical, dental, hairdressing, home visits, school and youth.  The fair culminates in a Goulash competition - we have been asked to help judge this!

Then after this we will be splitting up into our various functions for a couple of hours and going to set up ready for a good start on Monday morning.

Prayer: please prayer that all the stuff will get to the right locations. And that none of the important equipment will be damaged from the journey. Please also pray that the Hungarian young Christians that are leading the discussion groups will quickly feel happy with their roles and filled with Gods spirit to repressent their strong faiths in an clear and gentle way.

Prayer: please pray that God will fill all of us with his Spirit to overcome nervousness, to listen to His voice on when and who to speak to,  to have the energy to complete the physical tasks, to be able to get over the language barrier and really be able to get to the center of what this is all about-Jesus!

Thanks and God bless

On the buses!

So its Saturday morning and we have been on the buses for 3 hours.  We are about to stop for supplies at Tesco.  Buying still water and last minute equipment for school and the youth camp.  We are also looking for the Chronicles of Narnia in Hungarian for the film nights.

Then we will be off for lunch.

Stuart Sadler

All safe in hotel

Friends

Its 1:00am on Saturday morning all are safely in their beds after a very late but very good Hungarian meal.  When we got to the hotel at 10:00pm some people needed their bed more they needed food so off they went but the majority came to the restaurant that Andrew Tarcy had organised and had a very nice time.  It was good to meet with old friends from last year and also to meet new.

Tomorrow we are off on two couches to the Ukrainian border and on to the villages.

We will leave Budapest about 9:00am Hungarian time (1 hour ahead of UK).

We should get to the border mid afternoon.

Please pray for our safe crossing of the border without too much interference. Please also pray for the health of the team as it is a long journey over sometimes difficult roads and tomorrow will be hot - 35 degree C.

Please pray specifically for Stu Wrights back and the younger ones travel sickness.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers they mean so much to us.

Love together in Christ

Weather

How warm will be out there?

Well God has been preparing us with the hot weather we have been having the last couple of weeks. In the Ukraine it will probably stay around the 35 C (95 F).

Last year it was hot and dry for the first part of the week and then cooler (but certainly not cold) and rainy for the rest of the week.

If you want to look at a forecast for the weather close to where we are close to Debrecen in Hungary (about 25 miles away). The BBC publish a five day forecast for Debrecen, you can find it at http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=4221

How does the technology work?

We thought it would be a great idea if we use this technology so that you can feel part of the trip and be thinking and praying for us almost in real time. But how does the technology work ...

Mark Chapman (our webmaster: the person who looks after our website) set up this blog.

You are most probably viewing this blog on your computer using a browser (e.g. Microsoft's Internet Explorer).

When we are on the trip all I will have is my mobile phone. In the Ukraine I will not be able to connect my phone to the web directly. However my mobile phone can receive and send emails even in the Ukraine. So Mark has set up the blog so that I can send it an email. As soon as it receives the email, the blog is updated with the contents of my email posted as a new message. And you can then see the new message the next time you open or refresh this page.

So if you want you can keep this page open all the time on your computer and just press refresh to see if I have posted a new message.

Is it just one way? No. If you post a comment to any of my emails. The blog will convert your comment into an email and send it to me in the Ukraine. It will be nice to hear from you and also feel free to ask any questions or anything you want. I can respond to you by posting a reply as a new message.

REMEMBER: A blog is a completely public website anyone whatsoever can read my posting and your comments so bear that in mind.

Thanks

Welcome to Holy Trinity's Ukraine Trip Blog

On Friday 28th July, members of Holy Trinity, along with members of Petersfield United Reformed Church and Walton Baptist Church, will once again visit Trans-Carpathia in the Ukraine.

This blog will chart the team's progress from Claygate to Trans-Carpathia and will provide a diary of their work in the Ukraine.

We will be most grateful for your prayers and we will publish prayer requests on the blog.
